FBI News:ALBUQUERQUE ― Pilar Angel Lucero, 33, of Albuquerque, was sentenced to 48 months in prison for violating federal firearms laws by unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition. Lucero will be on supervised release for three years after completing his prison sentence.
Lucero was charged by criminal complaint July 7, 2016, with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition June 16, 2016, in Bernalillo County, following a routine traffic stop by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD). subsequently was indicted on the same charge on July 28, 2016.
According to the indictment, was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition because of his previous felony convictions for shooting at a dwelling, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, drug trafficking, child abandonment/abuse, conspiracy to traffic in controlled substances, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit burglary of a house.
May 2, 2017, Lucero pled guilty to the indictment and admitted that June 16, 2016, APD officers found a handgun with 11 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle during a traffic stop. Lucero further admitted purchasing the handgun by using a fake New Mexico driver’s license while knowing that he was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition because of his status as a convicted felon.
This case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and the APD. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer M. Rozzoni prosecuted the case.
