Faulty Cable Causes Barranca Mesa Power Outage

DPU News:

A faulted underground cable was the cause of Wednesday afternoon’s power outage.

Approximately 95 Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities’ (DPU) customers lost power at about 3 p.m. east of San Juan Road on Barranca Mesa. DPU electric linemen located the fault, made repairs and restored power by 5:35 p.m. to the affected residences.

DPU officials remind Los Alamos citizens of a helpful tool during outages.  Updates to power outages affecting approximately 100 or more customers are provided on DPU’s Twitter handle @DPUalerts and Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DPU1968. Updates include the general area of the outage, time, cause, and estimated restoration time, if known.

To report an outage, customers are asked to call the DPU office at 505.662.8333, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. After hours, customers are asked to call police dispatch at 505.662.8222.
