COUNTY News:

It’s been a great run of more than 20 years of Bear Camp at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink, but 2015 is the last summer this program will be offered by the County.

When Bear Camp began in the mid 1990’s it was to fill a gap in summer child care services but in the past five years numbers have continued to decline as many other camps have come to Los Alamos and there are several more summer camp activities to choose from. With this in mind, the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Division reviewed the program and determined it was time for the County to move out of the childcare business as it was no longer cost effective and there are now so many organizations offering programs in the community.

PROS Division staff are going to miss the campers and parents as so many of the Bear Campers have grown up in the program, moved into Bear Camp Unplugged, became Counselors in Training and Bear Camp staff. The County thanks the community for entrusting their children to Bear Camp for the past 20 years and looks forward to seeing everyone at other events and programs around the community.
