MUSIC News:

The Far West plays Ashley Pond Park at 7 p.m. today as part of the free Summer Concert Series.

It’s “Keep It Co-op Night” with special thanks to Del Norte Credit Union, Zia Credit Union, Los Alamos Co-op Market, Bathtub Row Beer Co-op, Little Forrest Preschool and LA Public Schools Credit Union.

Far West is reminiscent of the 70s Cosmic Cowboy scene that featured bands like the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Byrds, Poco, the Grateful Dead, The Band, Buffalo Springfield, and Willie and Waylon.

“The Far West are the best country band out of the Los Angeles since Gram Parsons rode wild and Dwight Yoakam merged punk with honky-tonk,” promoter Russ Gordon said.

Check them out on youtube, www.thefarwestband.com or at www.gordonssummerconcerts.com.

“Bring your rain gear, chairs and dance shoes. This will be an amazingly fine country dance,” Gordon said.
