Scenes From Event Kick Starting Clean Up Los Alamos Day

In preparation for Saturday’s 18th Annual Clean Up Los Alamos Day, members of the Zero Waste Team, Environmental Services Board (ESB) and Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division collected trash Tuesday afternoon along an arroyo near Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock. If looking for a chance to help spruce up the community, residents can take part in the Clean Up Los Alamos Day Saturday. Participants will receive free trash bags and gloves, which can be collected at the Eco Station office through today or residents can call 505.662.8163 or email solidwaste@lacnm to arrange another pickup time. Participants are reminded to follow COVID-safe practices. The traditional volunteer appreciation lunch is canceled this year but a raffle will be held for those who participate in the online photograph challenge. Raffle prizes include one of five backyard compost bins and one of three zero waste kits. To enter to win, participants must take a picture during the cleanup event. The picture can be a before and after cleanup of an area or a picture picking up trash. Then, post the picture on Facebook, and tag Los Alamos County Environmental Services and use the hashtag #quarancleanupLA. All pictures with the tag and the hashtag will automatically be entered in the raffle. Photo by Kirsten Laskey/ladailypost.com
