AFRL Astronomer Observes New Asteroid Satellite

KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE — “I was wrong,” said Air Force Research Laboratory researcher, Dr. Jack Drummond, when looking back to his early research on asteroids and their orbiting moons.

Drummond is an astronomer at AFRL’s Directed Energy Directorate Starfire Optical Range (SOR) on Kirtland Air Force Base. First as a government civil servant, and now as a Leidos contractor supporting AFRL, he has spent decades studying the solar system, and his research has often focused on asteroid satellites.

Heron Lake State Park is open. Recent photos show that Heron Lake is frozen over. It opened for ice fishing Jan. 11 at the Dam Site Recreation Area. The kokanee salmon snagging season is over. N3B, Triad Cooperate To Ship Radioactive Waste To WIPP

N3B and Triad have successfully partnered to combine transuranic (TRU) waste shipment for additional efficiency.

The shipment, loaded at Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) Radioassay and Nondestructive Testing (RANT) facility at Technical Area 54, comingled legacy and new generation radioactive waste, resulting in more efficient shipments to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).
