The Los Alamos Elks Lodge is on a Random Acts of Kindness crusade for the Youth Activity Centers (YAC) in Los Alamos and White Rock.
Elks members met with YAC Director Paul Martinez and he mentioned that the kids could benefit from regular interaction with the local police force to impact the kids in a positive way.
The Los Alamos Elks Lodge is facilitating this engagement by scheduling ice cream socials between LAPD and the two YACs. The Elks will purchase ingredients and serve so the officers can enjoy the ice cream and interact with the kids in a casual and reassuring setting.
Police Chief Dino Sgambellone thought it was a great idea and the Elks coordinated today’s social with Cmdr. Oliver Morris. The Elks appreciate LAPD’s willingness to partake in this mutually beneficial venture and hope that other officers will accept the invitation for a White Rock social Oct. 28.
The Elks have procured a $2,400 grant budget to help the YACs continue to make a constructive difference in the community over the next nine months and LAPD’s involvement is the cherry on top!
