Staff report

March 14 is celebrated annually by students and staff at Los Alamos Middle School and this year’s theme was “π Round the World.”

The event is hosted by the math department under the direction of Clara Vigil. Albert Einstein was a special guest at the event. He shared with students that math is everywhere.

To amplify his point, he challenged students to use the sum of π to guess how many gum balls were in a jar.

Other mathematical challenges to students included figuring out the circumference of pizzas, the distance that the earth travels in its daily rotation and the volume of air in a balloon.
