Garden Signs and Bird Feeders Vandalized at Mountain School

The Mountain Elementary School PTA has announced that garden signs and bird feeders at the school were vandalized over the weekend of June 22-23.
The PTO would like to encourage the community to keep a watchful eye out and report and any vandalism to the Mountain School principal or the Los Alamos Police Department.
The PTA will replace the classroom garden signs and feeders when school resumes in August. The gardens are funded by a grant from the LAPS Foundation and Mountain School PTA. Read More
Los Alamos Kiwanis Honors Local Student Jordan Ahlers
The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos has kicked off its annual recognition of local students selected to recieve educational scholarships. Jordan Ahlers graduated from Los Alamos High School and was honored at a recent Kiwanis meeting. She will attend Hillsdale College in Michigan in the fall to study pre-law or engineering. Los Alamos High School garnered national attention this past week when the Washington Post added LAHS to its 2013 “America’s Most Challenging High School” list.

ALBUQUERQUE—For the first time New Mexico has fallen to the bottom slot—ranking 50 in the nation in overall child well-being in the 2013 national KIDS COUNT Data Book.

Principal Sandy Warnock has announced that Los Alamos High School was on Newsweek magazine’s 2013 America’s Best High School list.
Los Alamos was ranked 780 from a group of the top 2,000 high schools in the nation.
“Once again I am reminded what a wonderful staff and student body we have who work hard to achieve their best,” Warnock said. “It is confirmation that what we do is making a difference in improving student achievement.”

UNM-LA Launches Mil Levy Campaign Wednesday

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos will kick off a campaign Wednesday, June 19, asking for voter support of a mil levy special election set for Sept. 17.
A successful election will afford financial stability and sustainability of programs and services in light of diminishing state funding.
