Students Asked To Ride School Bus Oct. 8

The Los Alamos Public School District would like students’ help increasing ridership on local school buses. LAPS Transportation Coordinator Audrey Washburn asks eligible students to take a LAPS school bus to or from school Oct. 8.

Mountain Elementary’s Annual Halloween Carnival Oct. 17

Mountain Elementary School’s Annual Halloween Carnival has a new day and time, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.
This is a week earlier than previous years and the start time is a little earlier for families with little ones. Weather permitting, game booths will be outdoors on the upper playground.

Letter to the Editor: Ride The Bus Wednesday!
In my first several months on the (Los Alamos) School Board, I was asked to approve a $250,000 transfer of funds to cover a shortfall in the Transportation Department. WHAT?!?!? What’s going on with that? Subsequently I spent a considerable amount of time interacting with then Transportation Director Keith Rosenbaum and CFO John Wolfe to understand why we had to pull money out of our precious lease funds to prop up what I thought should be a fundamental operation to our School District.

Members of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos will visit local schools Oct. 24 to raise money for polio eradication.
In 1985, Rotary International began raising funds in an effort to eliminate Polio worldwide. Polio has not been a problem in the United States for many years, but this is not the case in many developing countries. By partnering with the World Health Organization and other government and private groups, Rotary International has achieved a 99 percent reduction of Polio worldwide.

Los Alamos High School NJROTC unit hosted Albuquerque’s La Cueva High School and Farmington’s Piedra Vista High School for the Northern New Mexico Tri-Meet for marksmanship Saturday.
