WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich, D-N.M. and Mazie K. Hirono, D-Hawaii introduced S.1998, the Middle Class Creating Higher Education Affordability Necessary to Compete Economically (CHANCE) Act, a bill to increase access to affordable post-secondary education for low- to moderate-income students.

The bill would address the significant loss in value of Pell Grants by adjusting them for inflation, reinstate year-round Pell Grants, and increase the number of eligible semesters to 15.

Sarah Lott, a senior this fall at Los Alamos High School, had an exciting summer, qualifying for her first USA Swimming Junior National competition when she swam at the American Long Course Finals meet in Dallas a few weeks ago.
Lott qualified with a 58.36 in her 100-meter freestyle, and also got the 200-meter freestyle bonus cut time with a 2:06.03. That’s why UNM-LA Community Education is excited to offer a mushroom hike 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. Experienced mushroom forager Thomas Peña is leading the hike.
