LAHS Hires Head Girls Varsity Coach Lanse Carter

LAHS SPORTS News:

The Los Alamos High School Athletic Department announces that Lanse Carter has been named Head Coach of the Girls Basketball Program. 

Since 2003, Coach Carter has had stints at Capital, Pojoaque, Santa Fe Indian School and Santa Fe High School. During his tenure at Pojoaque High School, he won two state championships.

Prior to his head coaching positions he also served as an assistant coach at Adams State and Western State in Colorado.

Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will host the 2018 commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at Crossroads Bible Church.
 
This year, more than 100 students completed a recognized level of study at UNM-LA. This includes Associate of Arts degrees, Associate of Science degrees, Associate of Applied Science degrees, and academic Certificate programs.

The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 12 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park.
 
Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes, and star gaze. Venus, as well as Jupiter and its moons will potentially be visible during the evening. There will be a tour of the spring constellations and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies.

  • Module I: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., May 19 at Unitarian Church of Los Alamos; and
  • Module II: 1-4 p.m., May 19, at Unitarian Church of Los Alamos.
Module I teaches individuals 13+ about bigotry and the steps to be an active bystander. Module II provides practice and interactive role playing of what is learned in Module I.

 On Sunday evening, May 20, the Los Alamos Phi Beta Kappa Association will hold its 62nd annual banquet to honor the top graduates of Los Alamos High School.

Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest undergraduate honor society in the United States and has about 250 members in Los Alamos County (2% of the county’s adult population).
