PEEC News:
The Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s (PEEC) signature event, the annual Earth Day Festival, is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road. “The festivities include delicious food, tons of information about local businesses and organizations, fun activities and exciting entertainment.”
The Earth Day Festival is free! Throughout the day, guests can visit a variety of community booths with all kinds of activities and information to celebrate Earth Day. Recycle Man will provide interactive entertainment at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Chick Keller will give an Eclipse presentation at 11:30 a.m., and the Hill Stompers will perform at noon. Enjoy a delicious lunch from Manko: Native American Fusion. PEEC encourages festival attendees to bring their own water bottles, utensils and napkins to help reduce the waste generated from the festival.
There will be no parking available at the nature center. Instead, park at the Justice Center (across from the library) and ride the free Atomic City Transit bus straight to the nature center.
In addition to the Earth Day Festival, PEEC is offering several Earth Week programs:
- April 18, join Craig Martin to learn how to use iNaturalist and start sharing your nature observations in Los Alamos County;
- April 19, on Friday before the festival, PEEC’s Planetarium manager will give an interactive talk about how NASA studies our home planet;
- April 20, following the festival, watch the fulldome film “Habitat Earth” in the planetarium; and
- April 22, on actual Earth Day take a wildflower walk with Craig Martin.
This year, the Earth Day Festival is made possible thanks to support from N3B and Zia Credit Union. PEEC also partners with Atomic City Transit and Los Alamos County Environmental Services and Department of Public Utilities to put on this event.
