COMMUNITY News:

Central Park Square owner Philip Kunsberg arranged for a large eagle sculpture to be installed Friday at Main Street and Central Avenue.

The eagle sculpture created by artist Rick Cunningham is on loan from Shidoni Gallery in Tesuque.

“Shidoni President/CEO Scott Hicks generously loaned the sculpture to Central Park Square and we really appreciate it,” Kunsberg said.

The sculpture is made of metal and measures 10 feet and 10 inches in height with a wingspan of 13 feet and 7 inches.

“It took some artistry with the backhoe to mount the sculpture properly and the credit goes to my crew Cesar Perez and Diego Sanchez,” Kunsberg said.

This is the 11th sculpture to be installed since Kunsberg purchased in Central Park Square from developer Tom Netuschi in December 2011.

“We want to make Central Park Square an interesting and welcoming place for the community,” Kunsberg said, “and I got some of the ideas and motivation to do this from my participation on the Creative District Advisory Committee.

The “Wally” sculpture sitting near the grass area close to Unquarked the Wine Room since last November was on loan from Shidoni Gallery and recently sold. It has been removed; however Kunsberg said it will be replaced with a new sculpture soon.

Shidoni Gallery is an indoor and outdoor gallery devoted primarily to fine American crafts. For more information, visit http://www.shidoni.com.
