Eagle Scout Replacement Certificate Presented After 1964 Original Was Destroyed in Fire

Alan Kernodle of Los Alamos, left, earned his Eagle Scout rank nearly 50 years ago. Fire destroyed his certificate, badge and other Scouting awards in 2011. Local Scoutmaster Jim Cobble heard about Kernodle’s loss and contacted Council Executive Chris Shelby of the Great Southwest Council. Shelby researched Scout records through the National Council and discovered that Kernodle received his Eagle Scout rank during a Dec. 28, 1964 ceremony. Shelby had a replacement certificate created and also located a 1964 Eagle Badge on Ebay, which were presented to Kernodle by District Executive Kevin McClelland of the Northern New Mexico District of the Boy Scouts of America, during a special ceremony March 11 at the District Roundtable in White Rock.
