- Cops Are On the Lookout for Drunk Drivers And They’ll See You Before You See Them
SANTA FE – With the summer travel season in full swing and Labor Day weekend fast approaching, law enforcement agencies across New Mexico have a simple message for drivers: “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
Through Sept. 1, local, state and tribal law enforcement will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols across New Mexico, looking for and arresting drunk drivers.
“Over thelastdecade,our state’s alcohol fatality crashratehasdroppedby39 percenttoarecordlow. But even one death caused by DWI is one too many,” said New Mexico Department of Transportation Secretary Tom Church.
The upcoming DWI crackdown is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaignwhich is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement and public education tools.
