After the Department of Public Utilities implemented new utility billing software last July, the Department waived all late fees while it worked through billing delays and problems with the bill presentation.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, however, unpaid balances that are delinquent by more than 30 days, will be assessed a late fee of 1.5 percent.
Department officials encourage customers with unpaid, delinquent balances to contact its office prior to Jan. 1.
“We can process your payment, direct you to financial assistance programs, and/or arrange a payment plan to help you avoid late fees,” Deputy Utilities Manager Robert Westervelt said.
Los Alamos and White Rock customers can reach the Department 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, in person at 1000 Central Ave., by phone at 505.662.8333 or through email to CustomerCare@lacnm.us.
