UPDATE: The waterline repair is completed and water has been restored to all customers.
A water break in the Eastern Area neighborhood of Los Alamos has resulted in the loss of water services to customers in the area bounded by Kiva and Myrtle between 4th Street and 6th Street.
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities water crews are making repairs and anticipate by 5 p.m. today that water services will be restored.
Department officials advise that when water is restored, some customers may experience cloudy water. This discoloration is due to trapped air in the water pipes and while it is aesthetically unpleasant, the water is safe and poses no health risk.
To clear the lines, DPU recommends flushing home plumbing lines by running all the taps with cold water for several minutes.
Direct questions or concerns to the DPU through the Customer Care Center 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at 505.662.8333 or CustomerCare@lacnm.us.
