Time is running out on Early Bird registration for the 2014 Dog Jog in White Rock Saturday, April 26. Register before April 6 and pay a reduced fee. Note the new location in front of the White Rock United Methodist Church (WRUMC) across from the entrance to Overlook Park.
The Dog Jog is coordinated by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club, Mountain Canine Corps and Atomic City Roadrunners as a fund raising benefit for the Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter.
The Friends of the Shelter is a local non-profit organization that provides medical services and needed items for animals at the Los Alamos Animal Shelter and throughout northern New Mexico. The organization also sponsors a very active volunteer program that helps the animals by providing socialization, exercise and training.
The Dog Jog is open to all participants with or without a dog and at any pace. It offers a 3.1 mile competitive run or 2 mile non-competitive fun walk/run. Race check-in and t-shirt and informational packet pick-up time is 8-8:40 a.m., April 26 at WRUMC.
Race prizes and awards will be given for the fastest runners, random walkers and dogs in all manner of fun categories. Registrants will get an event t-shirt with a logo designed by local sixth grader Katie Laintz and a packet filled with entertaining and educational dog related information.
The fee for the first adult or child 12 years and older is $20 for applications received before April 6. The fee is $25 after that date. Additional adults or older children are $15 each and younger children are $5 each. Race day registration will be available but t-shirts may have to be mailed.
Registration forms are available at the Friends of the Shelter website at http://lafos.org/dogjogor at the following locations in town: Pet Pangaea, Animal Clinic of Los Alamos, Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital, and CB FOX.
If you attend the Friends of the Shelter Posse Lodge Pancake Breakfast Sunday, April 6, you can fill out and hand in the Dog Jog registration form there and be guaranteed the discounted entry fee.
There will also be a reduced fee ($20) microchip clinic for cats and dogs provided at the event by local veterinarians from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. No pre-registration is needed for the microchip clinic.
