SHELTER News:

Almost time for the annual Dog Jog!  The Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter would like to remind the community that it is almost time for the always popular annual  Dog Jog.

This year we are excited to announce an expanded number and types of prizes from some donors new to the Dog Jog in addition to our popular traditional prizes. Come see what our creative crew has come up with to treat you and your canine companion!

The competitive 3.1 mile race and the 2 mile non-competitive fun walk/run begin at a NEW LOCATION this year, Saturday April 25 at Rover Park. Race day registration ($25) and packet pick up is 8:10-8:40 a.m.; the 3.1 mile race will begin at 9 a.m. and the 2 mile fun walk/run at 9:01 a.m.

The Friends of the Shelter also announces that there will be an on site reduced fee microchip clinic 9-10:30 a.m. No preregistration is required in order to have your dog or cat microchipped for the very modest fee of $20.

Don’t have a dog? You can still participate in the fun. Although the shelter population fluctuates, it is possible that some shelter dogs will be available to accompany you on a first come-first served basis. Or you are welcome to run or walk without a canine companion! Come join the fun and support the Friends of the Shelter to continue with it’s mission of helping the shelter and homeless animals of Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico.

For safety’s sake, please keep all dogs on a 6 foot or shorter leash at all times. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome but please leave bicycles, roller blades and skateboards at home as many dogs find them upsetting. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult (although the adult need not register).
