DOE Secretary Addresses Employees At WIPP

WIPP News:

This week, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz visited Carlsbad to tour the site and see firsthand the recovery efforts underway at the WIPP facility. In addition to meeting with local officials, Moniz spoke to area residents about WIPP recovery efforts at a town hall meeting, which also included Sen. Tom Udall, Sen. Martin Heinrich, Rep. Steve Pearce, Secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department Ryan Flynn and Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway.

While at the site, the Secretary and the congressional delegation spoke to employees. This is the first WIPP visit for Moniz, who was confirmed as Energy Secretary in May 2013.

Community Meeting:

The City of Carlsbad and DOE will co-host a town hall meeting featuring updates on WIPP recovery activities and a presentation from the New Mexico Environmental Department (NMED) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 in the City Council Chambers, 101 N.
