Yilin Zhang is coming to New Mexico to talk about the move for statehood for Washington, D.C., a League of Women Voters issue. She will be here at 5 p.m., Sept. 20 for discussion, drinks, and appetizers at the home of Becky Shankland, 6 Mariposa Court in White Rock.
This has been a hot topic since 2016 when D.C. citizens voted to petition Congress for statehood.
Questions Zhang will address include:
- Can DC citizens vote for president?
- Do DC citizens pay taxes?
- Do DC citizens have representation in Congress?
- What would a state of Washington DC look like?
Zhang will answer these and many other intriguing questions about the movement to grant statehood to the residential and commercial parts of DC.
