SANTA FE—Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU) is proud to support the northern New Mexico communities in which it operates. To further this mission, DNCU has forged a relationship with The Poeh Cultural Center and Museum to aid The Center’s vision for helping in the continuation, preservation, and revitalization of Pueblo traditions and advancing respect for Pueblo history and culture.

Elements of the partership include the establishment of a DNCU Poeh Center Scholarship Fund and showcasing Poeh Center art on DNCU instant debit cards. The Scholarship Fund will cover all associated fees to run a one semester traditional Pueblo pottery class, which allows for up to 15 students to delve into traditional pottery methods such as harvesting and preparing clay, forming and painting, and outdoor firing.

“Pueblo pottery has sustained our people for generations; thanks to Del Norte, pottery will continue to be part of Pueblo lives as well as a way to share Pueblo culture with others,” says George Rivera, Governor of the Pueblo of Pojoaque.

Pots created by artists Cavan Gonazales (San Ildefonso) and Lois Guiterrez de las Cruz (Pojoaque and Santa Clara) have been selected to grace DNCU’s instant debit cards for a period of one year—DNCU members will begin to see this distinctive visual enhancement to their cards in early 2015.

“The partnership with The Poeh Center presents a unique opportunity to enrich our community involvement while also sending a message to our membership and the public about the inherent values of The Poeh Center’s mission,” DNCU President/CEO Chuck Valenti said.

Further partnership developments may include a pottery exhibition at a DNCU branch and the use of Poeh Center artistry within the DNCU advertising channel.
