  • As part of Movember, a campaign to bring awareness to men’s health issues, DNCU pledges a $1,000 donation to a men’s health organization

SANTA FE — Del Norte Credit Union, Northern New Mexico’s hometown financial institution, challenged its team to a Movember shave that will bring awareness to several men’s health issues.

According to the official Movember campaign, men die on average six years younger than women and for largely preventable reasons. That is why DNCU is starting conversations about men’s health and encouraging men to talk openly about their health.

To do this, DNCU established a challenge for male employees—shave at the beginning of November, grow a creative and unique mustache, beard, or both; and the winner gets the opportunity to choose the organization that a $1,000 donation will be made on behalf of the credit union.

DNCU will publish the final pictures and send for a vote of the best mo’ to their members and employees by Dec. 2, 2019.

“Our team at DNCU is enthusiastic to host this challenge and start conversations at our locations to help the Movember movement. We join over 5 million supporters around the world,” President/CEO Chuck Valenti said. “DNCU is dedicated to improving lives, and that includes helping men take action against potential health risks.”

A total of seven DNCU employees are participating this year, and all invite our community to talk about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

“It’s exciting to be part of an organization that goes far and wide to improve lives in our community,” Chief Lending Officer Dave Weidauer said. “For me, the Movember challenge was about joining my team in an effort to start conversations about health issues that we don’t normally talk about.”

According to the New Mexico Department of Health, cancer continues to be one of the leading factors in male death rates. To see further statistics visit nmhealth.org and for more information on the Movember campaign, visit movember.com.
