Big mountain skiing legend Dean Cummings drew a standing-room-only crowd of all ages to his talk on heli-skiing at Wednesday’s Los Alamos Mountaineers Club meeting, hosted jointly with the LA Ski Club.
Cummings showed photographs and video of heli-skiing in the Chugach Mountains around Valdez, Alaska over the last 24 years. He attributed his remarkable outdoors accomplishments and his discipline to his childhood in Los Alamos.
He spoke of developing rigorous avalanche and other safety protocols for heli-skiing, and discussed his plans to develop the longest vertical aerial tramway in North America to provide safe access to ski areas for year-round outdoor recreation and education.
