Joe Vigil is the first patient at the new DaVita Dialysis Center and he was all smiles Monday during an open house at the new treatment center on the Canyon side of Los Alamos Medical Center.

“I was born at Los Alamos Medical Center in 1962 and I live in Los Alamos, but for nearly five years I’ve had to travel three days a week to Espanola for treatment,” Vigil said. “For the first time in so long I have weekends off … I love DaVita!”

DaVita is a leading provider of dialysis services in the United States, treating patients with chronic kidney failure and end stage renal disease.

DaVita strives to improve patients’ quality of life by innovating clinical care, and by offering integrated treatment plans, personalized care teams and convenient health-management services.

“This is a beautiful clinic and I think it is a huge advantage to have DaVita here, near other medical services,” LAMC Interim CEO John Whiteside said. “Keeping patients close to home for this time-consuming treatment will enhance their quality of life.”

DaVita, which is Italian for “giving life”, began in 1999 and has grown to more than 67,000 employees. Board-certified nephrologist David Mills, MD, is the medical director of DaVita and also maintains his private practice at Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico. Rounding out the local team are Facility Administrator Sammy Benavidez, Regional Coordinator Kat Reher and RN Gloria Diaz.

DaVita Inc. is a Fortune 500® company and the parent company of DaVita Kidney Care and HealthCare Partners.
