Daily Postcard: History Grove along the backcountry vehicle route, shrouded in fog Friday at the Valles Caldera National Preserve. From May 15 through Nov. 15, visitors with a backcountry vehicle pass may drive Valles Caldera’s backcountry route. This route takes visitors from the Valle Grande front-country through the central part of the park and up into Valle Toledo and Valle San Antonio in the north. Starting Thursday, Nov. 16, this route is closed to vehicular traffic for the winter season.
