The full moon illuminates the sky Sunday morning over White Rock. The full moon in July is called the Buck Moon, named after the new antlers that emerge from a buck’s forehead around this time of the year. It also is called Thunder Moon, Hay Moon and Wort Moon. On July 4 or 5, depending on your time zone, the Buck Moon turned a shade darker for many people in North and South America and Africa, as it is eclipsed by the Earth’s penumbral shadow during a penumbral lunar eclipse.
