Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) has launched its new website to entice community members and enhance nominations for the annual Community Assets Awards.
The website can be found at www.cya-nm.org and provides information for the event, photos and the form required for nomination submissions. The Community Assets Award program is aimed at recognizing the good efforts, great deeds but often not celebrated acts of service in the local community.
C’YA coordinates the ceremony with the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) to recognize the contributions of individuals, organizations and businesses.
“We celebrate those who live, work or school in our community,” C’YA Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “The event allows us to share the stories that often go unheard by most but are observed by others.”
The love for recognizing individuals, inspiring youth leadership and providing science education in the classroom grew into a local non-profit 501-c-3 in 2014 and some additional goals are planned in the new year. While the 2015 event highlighted more than 30 individuals, plus organizations and businesses, the goal is to make that pool of goodness grow for 2016.
“Last year was the first time no youth were nominated for the awards program and this year we hope that won’t happen again,” Lauritzen said. “We added a website to make the process to nominate easy while still being free.”
The fundraising through donations and the Festival of Trees done with the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization provides funds for the ceremony to take place.
Applications are available by visiting the website, calling 505.695.9139 to request a nomination form or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The forms are to be postmarked by Dec. 23 with the awards ceremony planned in January.
