Nicholas Seet’s Financing the Entrepreneurial Enterprise class returns to Los Alamos at noon Fridays Aug. 28 through Oct. 30 at the Diamond Mix co-working space in Pueblo Complex on Diamond Drive.
The class walks students though the fundamentals of raising money from investors through the creation of a real-money crowd-financing campaigns on sites like KickStarter, IndieGoGo and GoFundMe.
Past students successfully funded projects as varied as a documentary on the metric system, a USB-splitter/adapter, the Bathtub Row Brewery, and clean water for Santa Fe. Even students with no clear business concepts or experience are welcome, many ideas change dramatically from the start of the course. Last year students raised more than $10,000 to support their ventures.
It is a little known fact that 60 percent of KickStarter projects fail, and 90 percent of IndieGoGo’s fail. This atrocious failure rate can be largely attributed to the lack of preparation on behalf of the entrepreneur. These steps will be covered in the class, with special attention paid to the marketing video, incentives and building a support community.
Guest speakers from throughout the New Mexico financing community will be brought in to share their insights and become a part of your network.
Nicholas Seet is a trailing spouse, co-founded LaunchLeader.com and has helped many entrepreneurs achieve their initial funding targets. He believes that there is a recipe and anyone can do it. Classes begin at noon Friday at Diamond Mix. Lunch will be provided, there is no cost for attendance. Seet will talk about his class at 8:30 a.m. Monday on KRSN AM 1490.
