COMMUNITY News:

Of the children in 4th through 6th Grades who submitted designs for the upcoming 2016 Los Alamos CROP Walk & Turkey Trot t-shirt logo, one entry stood out above the rest. Andy Enriquez, a 4th grader, designed a logo with an athletic shoe on a person’s foot with the words “CROP Walk Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot 2016” around the image. He is the winner of the contest.

In recognition of his efforts, Enriquez will receive a free t-shirt, a small gift, public recognition and, of course, the honor of having his logo design printed on t-shirts. The shirts will be given to participants in the annual Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot Nov. 20. Enriquez’s sister, Sofia, won the same contest in 2014.

Interested walkers and runners for the 2016 CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot are encouraged to come to Los Alamos Middle School cafeteria after 1 p.m. Sunday Nov. 20 to register. The start time for the run/walk is 2 p.m. in front of the middle school, which is off San Ildefonso Road on North Mesa.

The purpose of the CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot is to raise money for hunger organizations to meet the needs of those in poverty or in disaster relief situations around the world and here in the U.S. Twenty-five percent of the money raised at the Los Alamos walk/trot will go to support local food bank LA Cares.

Further information about the event will be published soon.
