Criminal Justice Public Safety Task Force Meets Aug. 8

ALBUQUERQUE – A task force will meet Aug. 8 in Albuquerque to continue work on a strategic plan for improving criminal justice and public safety in New Mexico.

The Criminal Justice and Public Safety Task Force will hear from Albuquerque Police Chief Mike Geier, officials of the Children, Youth and Families Department, Human Services Department and researchers at the University of Cincinnati and University of New Mexico.

The staff of the Legislative Finance Committee will present a report on the criminal justice system in Bernalillo County.

The task force includes representatives from all three branches of government – legislative, executive and judicial – as well as local governments, law enforcement and the business community.

Retired Supreme Court Justice Edward Chávez chairs the task force, which is to submit a report to the Legislature by Oct. 15, 2018.
