The League of Women Voters Lunch with a Leader is 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Mesa Public Library.
The speaker is Kimberly Gabaldon, Los Alamos County’s first social services manager. She will present a talk on ‘the journey so far’ in developing the Social Services Division.
Gabaldon served as a Native American liaison for the State of New Mexico Behavioral Health Services Division for the last five years before coming to Los Alamos. Prior to that, she served as a policy analyst for the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for the Province of Ontario, Canada. She also worked for many years as a consultant on health related issues to the Union of Ontario Indians, a tribal consortium.
Gabaldon has a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a master’s degree in counseling from Lesley University.
She took over the management of Los Alamos Health Care Assistance Program that is transitioning from the Office of Management and Budget to Community Services. She also will coordinate the Community Health Council and manage existing social services contracts, as well as identify needs that can be met with new or different contracts.
The division also is in discussions to support coordination of the DWI Council. Gabaldon’s goal is to coordinate County services from a single location.
Gabaldon lives in Santa Fe with her husband and stepson.
