Power Outage in Pajarito Acres

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities officials reported a power outage affecting 660 customers in the Piedra Loop, Rio Bravo, Monte Rey areas at 1:30 a.m., Saturday morning.

The outage was due to a power pole and overhead cross arm failure. At 3:30 a.m., 650 customers had power restored, and at noon Saturday the remaining 10 customers had their power restored following the installation of a new air break switch.

Lodgers’ Tax Advisory Board Meeting Cancelled

The Nov. 19 meeting of the Los Alamos Lodgers’ Tax Advisory Board has been cancelled as we have ascertained that only two of the four current members of LTAB are able to make the scheduled meeting.

County Council Reviewing Strategic Goals Today

The Los Alamos County Council is meeting in a special session this morning to review its strategic goals. Councilors are discussing grouping existing items adopted back in 2011 under three broad categories: Quality of Life, Economic Vitality and Quality Governance. They feel having three categories of focus instead of the current 10 areas, makes it easier to communicate goals to County staff and the community. Los Alamos County Administrator Harry Burgess told the Los Alamos Daily Post in an email Thursday that the County has granted a one-year extension on the contract for a branding initiative study for Los Alamos.

The extension does not include an increase in compensation for consultant North Star Destination Strategies, Inc. of Nashville, Tenn. The $50,000 contract for brand development is a part of the County’s Economic Development Division’s Read More

15th Street Striping Work Underway

COUNTY News:

County traffic crews are finishing up striping operations on Canyon Road between 9th Street and 15th Street.

Striping on 15th Street began Thursday, Nov. 14. Work will include County crews laying out the striping design, followed by roadway paint application. During this work, motorists will see a slow moving striping machine followed by shadow vehicles.

Note that the purpose of the shadow vehicles is to allow enough time for the fresh paint to dry before traffic is allowed on the new paint. Please do not cut in front of the shadow vehicles. Work will be delayed in case of precipitation Read More

Breaking News: Los Alamos Police Crack Computer Crimes Case!

Breaking News: 

Over the past few weeks, Los Alamos police detectives have been working on a computer crimes case involving more than $50,000 that was illegally transferred from a victim at Los Alamos National Bank. Detectives have already made two arrests associated with this case.

SHELTER News:

Cali is a declawed seven year old spayed female calico who was surrendered for being unhappy in her surroundings. She is very affectionate and loves to play fetch, although her idea of fetch is when she tosses toys down from her perch and expects you to return them to her.

Cali is reported to do well with small dogs, some other cats, and even ferrets! She does very well in the communal cat room at the shelter.  Because Cali is declawed, she must be an indoor cat only.
