On March 13, 2009, I wrote a letter to the Parks and Recreation Board members and the County Administrator about the sad state of Ashley Pond and what an eyesore it presented to the public.
Getting no response, I expressed my concern to the County Administrator and the County Counselors on April 13, 2009. Nona Bowman and Robert Gibson both immediately expressed support, and, along with many other unknown (to me) citizens, got the County moving on a plan to rescue Ashley Pond from its continuing deterioraton.
Once the County accepted the challenge, they did a wonderful Read More

County Employees Hold Food Drive
During the County’s annual “Employee Thank You Luncheon” hosted by the County Council on Halloween at Fuller Lodge, employees dropped off cans of food and other non-perishable items as they entered the lodge for lunch. County employees came up with the idea of holding a food drive a few weeks ago when the federal government shut down. The decision was made to collect donations during the luncheon – hoping that on a day when they are all “treated” to a great lunch, it would be a good reminder that there are still those in the community who may not be as fortunate. Letter to the Editor: So Pleased With Ashley Pond Renovations!
I moved to Los Alamos as a young boy in August 1943. At that time Ashley Pond was just a simple pond with some green colored canoes that had been supplied by the Military to navigate the small area of water.

Ashley Pond was always the center of town, next to the military hospital.
When I read in the Los Alamos Daily Post, a section I frequently view to keep abreast of what is happening in Los Alamos, that a major upgrade Read More
