LAPD Alerts Community About Credit Card Fraud
LAPD News:
In March of 2015, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) noticed a specific increase of credit card fraud from Los Alamos citizens and visitors to the community reporting unauthorized charges on their credit card accounts as well as “on-line” postings of fraudulent activity in the area.
LAPD Cmdr. Oliver Morris explained that LAPD began to investigate circumstances that there may be a “skimmer” in Los Alamos County or a malware hack of point-of-sale software used by local businesses.

The 2015 Legislature passed a bill, HB 563, creating a Rio Grande Trail Commission to study a corridor for the proposed Rio Grande Trail. The 500-mile trail would extend from the Colorado to Texas borders using existing trails and creating new ones.

Bear Camp Registration Opens April 18

Registration for the summer camp (K-6th grade) as well as Bear Camp Unplugged (5th & 6th grade) begins at 7 a.m., Saturday, April 18 at the Larry Walkup Aquatic Center.
The Aquatic Center lobby will open at midnight April 18 for customer convenience.
Bear Camp is limited to 40 campers and Bear Camp Unplugged is limited to 13 campers per week. Registration paperwork is available at the Aquatic Center or download it here.

Sunday, April 5 is the fourth year in a row that the Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter (FOS) has participated in the Posse Lodge Pancake Breakfast. All proceeds go to FOS and the animals of Los Alamos County and northern New Mexico.
The menu includes pancakes of various flavors (including blueberry and chocolate chip), eggs, bacon, sausage, juice and coffee.

The Los Alamos Police Department has been receiving a higher volume of reports of fraudulent charges to credit card purchases from citizens and visitors to the community and the LAPD Investigations Division has been looking into the matter.
“We understand there has been a lot of ‘online’ communication amongst local victims who have had their credit cards used fraudulently in other states,” Cmdr. Oliver Morris said. “We would like these victim’s to come to the Los Alamos Police Department and ask to speak to a detective.”

County Manager Addresses CIP And FY16 Budget

County Manager Harry Burgess addressed questions that have arisen in the last month regarding citizen desires for anticipated or additional capital improvement projects (CIP) and whether or not the CIP will be an agenda item during budget hearings for FY16 that will be coming up in April.
Burgess explained that there will not be placeholders for individual CIP projects in the FY16 budget, but rather that money will be proposed to be accumulated in the CIP fund balance, so that it is available for a future Council discussion about the overall CIP plan. Read More
