Tall Crane Sculpture Installed At White Rock Library

The 10-foot tall sculpture of a crane, ‘Flying Folds’ created by artist Kevin Box was installed Wednesday outside the White Rock Branch Library on Sherwood Boulevard at N.M. 4. Los Alamos County Council unanamously approved the expenditure last May of Art in Public Places Funds not to exceed $125,200 for the crane sculpture and a companion piece that depicts what the original paper crane looks like when unfolded. Streetlights Go Dark To Enhance Farolito Viewing

The Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division will be turning off the power to various streetlights to enhance the viewing of holiday farolitos.

The streetlights will be turned off Thursday, Dec. 24 and will be restored Monday, Dec. 28.

For safety purposes, the Traffic & Streets Division requests that all vehicles and trailers be moved to off street parking during the full period that lights will be off. Each year, the Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division provides free farolito sand as a courtesy to residents. 
 
Sand is now available at these locations:
  • Overlook Park – in south Parking Lot
  • Urban Park – in 42nd St. Parking Area
  • Sullivan Field – west side of Parking Lot
  • Barranca Mesa – at the end of Barranca Rd at Navajo
  • North Mesa – at the north end of Soccer Field Parking Lot
Residents are asked to limit the amount of sand taken to the amount needed for their farolitos.

Property Tax Reminder: First Half Due Thursday

COUNTY News:

Payments for the first half of Los Alamos County property tax bills for 2015 will become delinquent after Thursday, Dec. 10. 

Payment must either be made in person at the 311 Customer Care Center by 5 p.m., Thursday or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges. 

The 311 Customer Care Center is in the lobby of the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave. They are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Payments should be mailed to P.O. Box 99, Los Alamos, NM 87544.
