Letter To The Editor: Hear Hear Councilor O’Leary!

By KHAL SPENCER
Los Alamos

Hear hear!

As a citizen who has seen both the hemorrhaging of money and the loss of good people during the last few years, and who has been, like most citizens, treated like a mushroom during these legal battles, I would like to see more transparency, better personnel policies, and fewer lawsuits.

The public has little recourse in these matters other than to see that our Council sets the bar high and holds the county administration accountable for good government. Susan’s (O’Leary) letter is a good start.

Thank you, Councilor O’Leary. Read More

Wind Gusts Kick Up Dust At Los Alamos Airport

With the gusty Spring winds, the construction activities at Los Alamos County Airport are kicking up thick clouds of dust. Here’s a view taken today from a residence near the east end of San Ildefonso Road on North Mesa. Construction crews should consider spraying water on this site to keep the dust down. This would make things better for anyone using the hiking trail along the airport perimeter and for people living a little further east on North Mesa. Photo by Richard Hughes

There is no doubt in my mind that each of us serve on the council because we care about our community and want it to be the best it can be. I respect each of you for your commitment to public service. Each of us will have different ideas about how issues need to be addressed and each of us deserves to have our Read More

This is the new donation dog and he (or she) waits patiently for visitors to drop in a little something to help the animals in the shelter. There is only one problem … it needs a name. That’s where the community comes in. Send the shelter a name using Facebook IM or drop off names at the shelter at 226 E Road. The shelter will select a name for the donation dog April 15 and invite everyone to a naming ceremony at the shelter. Courtesy photo

Brenner: Let’s Make It Easy For Businesses To Do Business

By PATRICK BRENNER
Republican Candidate
Los Alamos County Council

I’ve heard many times that the county’s job is to support the lab. I won’t disagree with that statement: the lab plays a critical role in northern New Mexico and it is imperative that the lab remains successful. My belief is that the best way for Los Alamos to support the lab is to maintain and improve curb appeal that will draw new, fresh and young scientists to the lab.

The best way to maintain that appeal is to strengthen local business. Many county policies and procedures are inhibitive to the growth of business and
