Science On Tap Explores Plasma Physics Thursday

Science On Tap happens every third Thursday of the month, featuring a new topic each time. This month Glen Wurden, with the Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Plasma Physics Group, will briefly outline the work he’s been doing in conjunction with the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator in Germany. Part of that work has been to design systems to peer into the roiling world of superhot plasmas to test a promising alternative approach to harness fusion energy.

Storm Damages 50 Trees At Los Alamos Golf Course

PAC 8 Community Media Center Offers Video Classes

PAC 8 is offering new classes this summer as well as some of the favorites.

Eighteen sessions are being offered. In “GoPro + Drone Flying”, students learn how to use a GoPro and do time-lapse, slo-mo and also fly a drone with a GoPro attached to it. All levels of video classes are offered with instruction in editing with I Movie, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. Students also can learn how to use a blue screen and make a music video.

Today, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics for the first quarter of 2016, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department.

Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of murder (homicide), rape, robbery and aggravated assault make up the violent crime category. The offenses of arson, burglary, larceny, and auto theft make up the property crime category. Read More

Los Alamos County Airport Manager David Ploeger announced today that he received a letter Thursday evening from Shawn Simpson, CEO of Boutique Air, terminating Boutique’s contract with the County to provide air service from Los Alamos to Albuquerque.

Boutique and the County entered into a contract last November to provide three flights a day between the Los Alamos airport (LAM) and Albuquerque Sunport (ABQ).

Los Alamos Golf Course Parking Lot Construction

COUNTY News:

Construction of the final phase of the Los Alamos COunty Golf Course parking lot is scheduled to begin Monday, April 18.

The contractor, GM Emulsion, will install a perimeter fence around the eastern portion of the main parking lot for safety. Patrons of the golf course will be allowed to use the western portion of the parking lot and overflow parking areas.
