LAFD Cadets Cleaning Up At Overlook Park Monday

The Los Alamos Fire Department Cadet Class #27 will be doing a community project at Overlook Park in White Rock on Monday, June 12 beginning at 9 a.m., and ending later in the afternoon the same day.
 
The class will be doing a general clean-up of trash and conducting wildland fire mitigation. The activities are being conducted to enhance the safety of the area in preparation for the upcoming July 4th fireworks display sponsored annually by the Los Alamos Kiwanis Club.

The Great American Campout event scheduled June 10 at Overlook Park has been canceled due to low participation numbers.

It is an unfortunate turn of events, yet with so many other community events occurring this weekend – Chamberfest, SummerFest, the Family Camp Out at Mesa Public Library, Tuff Riders Bike and Outdoor Gear Swap, and Bike and Hike Pajarito Mountain – it appears that people are double, triple, and quadruple booked!

The Los Alamos Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two female suspects seen in video surveillance footage from a shoplifting incident May 31 at a store on Central Avenue.

LAPD is offering a reward of up to $150 to anyone who has information on the identity of the two suspects.

Los Alamos County Airport Manager David Ploeger is retiring later this year and his career is ending on a high note. Ploeger was awarded Airport Manager of the Year during the Annual State Aviation Conference May 11 in Ruidoso.

Get On The Bus! ACT Offers Free Rides During Summer Concert Series Every Friday

Don’t forget! The DWI Planning Council is partnering with Atomic City Transit (ACT) to provide bus service Friday nights to ensure residents get to and from the Summer Concerts at Ashley Pond Safely. This service extends the regular weekly fixed route service provided by ACT. Service areas will include White Rock, North Mesa, and North Community. With the recent withdrawal from the Paris agreement on climate change, cities and towns around the country are developing independent plans to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. As our community’s very existence is predicated on science, we should be among them. A very simple and effective way that we can reduce our carbon footprint would be to use a portion of the now available CIP funds to install solar panels on our larger county facilities.
