With its cascading waterfall, flowering plants and swimming ducks; Ashley Pond is a picture-perfect postcard of serenity.

 

But there has been some trouble brewing beneath its waters. If walking on one of its curved wooden boardwalks, you can see the culprit to this trouble wafting lazily in the current. Algae has infiltrated the pond and the County is working to combat it.

James Lind Charged With Fourth Offense DWI

James K. Lind, 50 of Los Alamos was arrested July 8 and charged with fourth offense driving under the influence after Los Alamos Police officers responded to two calls reporting a reckless driver coming up the main hill road driving 10 miles an hour.

The same vehicle had been called in to LAPD Dispatch earlier driving on N.M. 4 and Rover Boulevard in White Rock.

A subcommittee of the County Council’s ad hoc Tourism Master Plan/ Economic Development Strategic Plan Steering Committee (now known as “Tourism Work Group”) is being created to continue the work of the prior Manhattan Project National Historical Park Committee.

I was contacted this morning by a volunteer with the Friends of the Shelter who expressed deep hurt at a recent story published in the Los Alamos Daily Post about the organization severing ties with the local animal shelter.

She felt the headline with the word “raid” misrepresented the actions of the volunteers and that the organization’s long history of caring for animals has been diminished.
