COUNTY News:

A transmission water line is leaking on the shoulder of westbound N.M. 502 and Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) water crews are working to repair it before the next winter storm hits.

The leak is west of the Los Alamos Cooperative Market alongside the Los Alamos Airport. It is on the highway side of the fence around the airport. Drivers on N.M. 502 are asked to drive cautiously near the work zone.

While the leak is not flowing across the highway (it is instead flowing under it), it has caused ice to build up across the Canyon Rim Trail. DPU is working with the Los Alamos County Parks Division to cover the ice patch with gravel. Trail users should be careful when approaching the section of trail in line with the work zone.

Repairs are expected to be complete by the end of the day Tuesday.
