COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County advises residents that phase 1 construction of Atomic Fiber, the community broadband network, is moving into residential neighborhoods in White Rock next week. Work schedules and weekly updates on construction can be accessed at lacnm.com/FiberAlerts.

Residential areas where construction is expected to occur this summer are Mirador, Pinion Trails, Pinon Estates, Canyon Piedras, La Vista, Chamisa Park 1&2, Ridge Crest 1-3, White Rock Canyon, Rover Manor, Valle Del Sol, La Senda, Hasta La Vista, Vista Encantada, and La Senda Subdivisions.

The entire phase is expected to be completed and service ready by late November. Contractors will canvas the neighborhood a week before construction to alert affected residents and provide a door hanger with key details and contact information. Impacts in specific neighborhoods will typically last about two weeks and be minor, as the construction involves the use of micro-trenching, directional boring, and affixing fiber to existing utility poles. Follow all construction signs when traveling through a work zone.

Construction of the broadband network will occur in eight phases over three years. As each phase is completed, service will become available in that area via one of the four Internet Service Providers (ISP).
