Los Alamos County has published its biennial FY17 and FY18 proposed budget. Citizens may access the document from the County’s website on the Office of Management and Budget webpage, using this link: http://www.losalamosnm.us/omb/Pages/BudgetsandReports.aspx
Reference copies are also available at both public libraries and the 311 Customer Care Center (Municipal Building lobby). A “Citizen’s Guide to the Budget” summarizes the budget in an easy-to-read format and is available to download from the OMB webpage link listed above.
Copies of the Citizen’s Guide also are available at the libraries and in the public literature rack in the west vestibule of the County Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.
Budget hearings are set for April 18, 19, 25 and 26. All hearings begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Until the Council adopts the budget, it is still open for discussion and change. Council will reserve the first 30 minutes of each hearing for public comment on any portion of the proposed budget. Once all comments have been provided, or, after this time has expired, budget presentations and discussions will continue.
Citizens unable to attend the budget hearings can still comment in a variety of ways:
- Send U.S. Mail to County Manager Harry Burgess, 1000 Central Ave., Ste 350, Los Alamos, NM 87544;
- E-Mail comments to firstname.lastname@example.org; or
- E-Mail comments directly to the County Council: email@example.com.
Citizens can view the budget hearings live using Internet streaming under the “County Council” link on the County’s webpage: http://www.losalamosnm.us/gov/council/Pages/default.aspx
If budget hearings need to be extended, the dates of May 2 and May 3 have been set as placeholders.
