COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Council is seeking applicants to fill a two-year term on the local Board of Registration, which also serves as the Canvassing Committee after elections.

There will be five members appointed to this Board with no more than two members appointed from any political party.

Consideration and appointment of applicants for the Board of Registration has been placed on the Council’s 6 p.m. June 8 meeting agenda. A call for letters of interest is now open and letters are due to the County Manager no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, May 20.

Interested applicants must be a registered voter in Los Alamos County. To apply, individuals are asked to submit a short letter with their name, address and a short paragraph indicating why they would be interested in serving on the Board. Under State law, any qualified person over the age of 18 who is a resident of Los Alamos County may serve.

Additional requirements state that the members of the Board shall not be county employees (including poll workers), elected officials or candidates for public office (including School Board or UNM-LA Advisory Board).

Letters should be emailed to County Manager Harry Burgess at LACManager@lacnm.us by the deadline. Candidates who submit a letter do not need to be present at the June 8 Council meeting.
