COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Council is seeking interested community members to apply for the newly created Inclusivity Board. The application system is now open with a first review of applications received by Aug. 25. The County Council took action to direct the establishment of a standing board to serve as the central point of contact for public input on inclusivity issues and provide recommendations to Council regarding inclusivity within the community. Effective Aug. 2, 2026, the Inclusivity Board is established in Municipal Code Chapter 8.
This new standing board’s duties and responsibilities include:
- Gather and provide citizen input to staff and council on inclusivity-related matters within the community. For this purpose, the board shall gather public input in ways appropriate to the circumstances, which may include public hearings dedicated to specific topics, outreach, or other engagement methods;
- Identify opportunities to promote a sense of belonging and inclusion within the community;
- Review and provide recommendations on policies, programs, or initiatives related to inclusivity when requested by the county council or county manager;
- Review emerging trends, best practices, trainings, speakers, and community needs related to inclusivity and provide recommendations to the county council;
- Coordinate with other boards as appropriate on inclusivity issues and/or activities;
- Perform such additional related duties as may be assigned by the county council or requested by the county manager; and
- Provide recommendations to the county council on ways to promote a sense of belonging for community members and to support inclusive practices within the community.
The Inclusivity Board will have seven members that represent a broad, diverse range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds within the community. The term for this board is two years although initial terms for three members will be one year only to ensure staggered term dates.
As with other County standing boards and commissions, requirements for members are as follows:
- Resident of Los Alamos County
- At least 18 years of age
- Not County Councilor or County employee except for poll workers

Although the application system is open, the initial deadline is August 25. All applicants are expected to be interviewed August 27-Sept. 2. This appointment will be an item for Council action at the Sept. 8 Council meeting, 6 p.m. in Council Chambers (1000 Central Ave, Los Alamos). Individuals do not need to be present at the meeting to be considered but are welcome to attend.
