COUNTY News:
Residents are reminded that the deadline to submit an application for Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) funding for childcare assistance or virtual learning assistance is just one week away.
Applications are due to the County by Friday, Nov. 20 at 5:00 p.m. and can be downloaded here:
Individuals impacted by COVID-19 since March 1, 2020 who reside in Los Alamos County and meet income qualifications, will be able to complete an application for childcare assistance, and/or virtual learning assistance.
For the childcare assistance program, residents who have experienced a COVID-19 related financial hardship and meet income qualifications, can apply for both reimbursements of childcare costs, or outstanding balances due to a qualified childcare facility.
Los Alamos County is also offering a one-time grant award to help with virtual schooling during COVID-19 to Los Alamos County residents with school age children who are attending virtual schooling and reside in the Los Alamos Public School District. These awards will range from $100-$500 per household and are dependent upon income and residency qualifications.
Because of the ongoing pandemic, applicants are asked to e-mail their applications to the County for processing. The County will assess the number of applications received against funds available and the needs of the community outlined in the applications.
“We have received a few applications for virtual learning assistance, but no applications for childcare assistance have been turned in yet. We want to ensure the community knows about this important funding source, and urge those who are eligible to apply by the deadline,” Social Services Manager Donna Casados said.
Direct questions and applications to CARESassistance@lacnm.us or 505.663.1966, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
