County Bids Three Councilors Farewell

Los Alamos County Council Chair Sharon Stover embraces Councilor Mike Wismer in the final moments of their time together on Council during Tuesday night’s last Council meeting of the year. The remaining County Councilors and County Board and Commission members and Staff formally recognize the outgoning Councilors’ service and thanked them for their dedication to the community. During the meeting, Stover asked for a moment of silence for the victims of the school shootings in Connecticut. She announced that the community is invited to attend a prayer vigil for the victims, which is  being organized by Los Alamos High School students at 5 p.m. Friday at Ashley Pond. Also during public comment, a local parent asked Council to ask for police to be placed fulltime in the five elementary schools within Los Alamos County to ensure their safety. Photo by Carol A. Closing comments at Tuesday’s meeting honoring the three Councilors included, “I can say that this is the finest group of people I’ve worked with,” Council Mike Wismer said, adding, Sharon – it’s fair to say we’ve been to hell and back.” Council Vice Chair Geoff Rodgers said of Stover’s leadership during the Las Conchas Fire, “When this community needed leadership during the fire – Sharon’s leadership was exemplary – she was a rock.” Stover said of her time on Council, “It’s been an honor.” Chiravalle said, “It has been a tremendous experience, a privilege and a great honor.” Each Councilor received a Nambe plaque and a framed original photograph by local photographer Leslie Bucklin.
