County Announces Muni Building Art Plaza Finalists


The County has announced the top three finalists in the competition for art to be installed in the west plaza of the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.

The Art in Public Places Board will hold a special event to give the public the opportunity to view the work of the finalists including:

  • “Solar Tree” by Eric Thelander;
  • “The Secret Life of a Cube” by Peter Swedenburg; and
  • Confluence” by Evelyn Rosenberg and Steve Borbas.

The open house is noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 in the Municipal Building lobby. Members of the Board will be on hand at this informal gathering to discuss the artists’ maquettes, answer questions and take suggestions. Comment cards also will be available at the event to collect written comments.

Following the open house, the APP Board will take additional feedback for one week through the County’s on-line “Open Forum,” available through the home page link found at The Open Forum topic will have photos and descriptions of the artwork to review and then comment with suggestions or recommendations. Residents unable to attend the open house are encouraged to visit Open Forum beginning Jan. 15 after 3 p.m. to weigh in with their comments. Public comment on the forum will close Jan. 21 at midnight in order to allow the Board time to review all comments on Open Forum Jan. 22, just ahead of their Board meeting that evening, when they may select the winning artist as an item on their agenda.
