The Los Alamos County Council voted 5-2 to tentatively approve the Community and Economic Development Department’s FY-2016 proposed budget as presented with the addition of one full time building official/safety officer to augment the one building official/safety officer currently on staff. The CEDD, with a budget of $13.42 percent comprises 14 percent of the County’s General Fund. Councilor Rick Reiss made the request for the new FTE in an effort to help expedite wait times for the public seeking building permits, inspections and other related services. Councilor James Chrobocinski said he believes the problem in the CEDD runs deeper than what one new person can fix and voted against the measure. Councilor David Izraelevitz also voted against the measure. Photo by Carol A. Clark/ladailypost.com
